Trailer Hitch and Cargo Carrier Recommendations for a 2015 Jeep Renegade
Question:
I know nothing about trailer hitches, but would like to purchase one for my 2015 Jeep renegade. How do I know which one to purchase? Also, does hole size make a difference? I want it mainly for cargo carrier.

Since you want a trailer hitch mainly for a cargo carrier I recommend a Class III with a 2 inch receiver. The 2 inch trailer hitches are built more stout and thus have a higher capacity and more accessory options than smaller Class II and Class I hitches.
For your 2015 Jeep Renegade I recommend Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 76021 for that exact reason.
This hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 675 pounds. Tongue weight is the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch receiver. This is the important capacity to look at for hitch mounted accessories like cargo carriers.
But you will also want to check the vehicle owner's manual to determine its tongue weight capacity. Whichever is lower, the hitch or the vehicle, is the capacity you will need to go by.
The weight of the cargo carrier and the cargo on it will all count towards the tongue weight. Because of this I recommend a light weight carrier to maximize the amount of cargo you can place on it. Curt carrier # C18113 weighs just 25 pounds and is 49 inches by 22-1/2 inches. I have linked a video showing it for you.
