Should a Transmission Cooler be Replaced in a Vehicle that Does Not Tow

Question:

My tranny cooler I think is shot it sits right in front of the rad, small about 2 inches x 6 inches. I dont use the jeep to tow anything. Do I need to replace this and if not, what to I do to complete the system when I remove the cooler?

Expert Reply:

Transmission coolers are designed to prolong the life of transmissions in vehicles that tow as well as other vehicles that do not tow.

I would recommend you replace yours with a supplemental one like the part # D13503 that you referenced. Bypassing the cooler of your vehicle would most likely cause the transmission to prematurely fail since heat is the number one killer of transmissions. This cooler will be larger than the one you currently have so it would be more efficient.
