Installing a brake controller on your 2002 Ford Ranger with a 4-Way flat connector at the back isn't too difficult at all. I am confident that you can perform this installation yourself at home. All you will need is the brake controller itself and an installation kit.
For a brake controller the Primus # TK90160 is a great choice. This is a proportional controller that applies the trailer brakes in proportion to how much the truck is braking.
For an installation kit you will need # ETBC7. This kit comes with a 7-Way trailer connector and the parts needed to install it and the brake controller. I have included some links that show and explain the ETBC7 installation for you.
