How To Wire For Lockout On Titan Coupler To Vehicle With 7-Way And Trailer With 4-Flat

Question:

I just read the wiring answer for this item however my truck has a seven round and my trailer only has a four flat. Would I need to use the Hopkins 37385 and plug the trailer into the four flat section and then one of the yellow wires from the actuator into the reverse slot on the five flat section? My current round adapter does not make contact with the trucks reverse lights.

To connect the electric lockout on the Dexter Trailer Coupler, # 099-175-20, to your truck you will need to make sure the center pole of the 7-Way connector on your vehicle is wired to the reverse light circuit.

If it is not wired to the reverse light circuit you will need to splice into the reverse light circuit behind the vehicles taillights and wire to the center pole inside your 7-Way vehicle connector.

Once the 7-Way connector has the reverse light circuit at the center pole then you can use the Draw-Tite 5-Flat Trailer End 48 Inch Harness, # 20017, on your trailer. You will need to remove the 4-Flat connector on your trailer and wire the 5-Flat harness to your trailer using color to color.

Then plug the 5-Flat connector into the 5-pole section of the Hopkins Adapter, # 37385, and the extra wire goes to the electric lockout on the Titan trailer coupler. The other wire on the actuator goes to a good, clean ground.

This will give you the connection to operate the electric lockout on the brake actuator on your trailer.
