Fifth Wheel Hitch and Rail Kit Recommendation for a 2000 Ford F-350

Question:

I recently purchased a 2000 f350 that already has a Reese fold away gooseneck hitch. It looks like an older hitch probably from 2000 or there about. I do not plan to tow a gooseneck and am in the market for a 5th wheel. My question is: Is there a gooseneck to 5th wheel adapter that will work with the Reese fold away hitch, or do I need to remove the gooseneck and install a 5th wheel hitch? I know there are temporary adapters that will work, but I would want something for more full time use. The 5th wheel that I am looking at is approximately 15,500lbs-17,000lbs max. The BandW adapter doesnt say it will work with the Reese. Any advice would be appreciated.

Your best solution is going to be to replace the gooseneck hitch in your 2000 Ford F-350 with a set of fifth wheel rails if your plan is to tow a fifth wheel trailer. There are some adapter available that would work, but the ideal solution will be a fifth wheel hitch.

The Reese hitch part # RP30081 that you referenced will be an excellent choice. This 20k hitch has an excellent jaw design that will provide excellent king pin contact.

For a rail kit I would recommend a custom install kit like the part # RP50082-58 over a universal set since it will minimize drilling and install time.
