Recommended B&W Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch for 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 Quad Cab Shortbed
Question:
i recently had a 16kpro series slider in my 08 dodge quad cab stolen. and am wondering if the Bandw 16k patriot 3200 will work with my existing rails and give me the cab clearance i need as my truck is a short bed NOT mega cab.?

The B&W 5th Wheel hitch # BWRVK3200 will fit into any industry-standard above-bed base rails from B&W, Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Pro Series, Reese, and Valley. However, this is a fixed non-sliding type hitch that will not give you enough turning clearance between your 5th wheel trailer overhang and the cab of the truck when making tight turns. You need a slider hitch with your short bed Ram. All options are shown on the linked page. For a slider hitch to fit your existing rails I suggest the Curt # 16516. This offers 12-inches of slider travel and a double-pivoting head.
There is a B&W option but it does not fit into above-bed rails. You would need to remove the existing rails and brackets and install the rail kit # BWGNRK1313-5W - which conveniently doubles as a gooseneck hitch - and then install the # BWRVK3400-5W 18K slider hitch. This setup is simply great if you have need to tow both types of trailer. The hitch includes beefy 1-inch-thick dual jaws to grab and secure your king pin and a fully-articulating head for easier hitching on uneven ground. The linked video illustrates.
