Troubleshooting a Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller on a 2012 1Ton Dodge Pickup
Question:
When I pull emergency brake handle, I get 12volts. When I step on my brake pedal , I get 3 volts. Sometimes it starts off with 5 volts and the harder I push the brakes the less I get.

I can help you troubleshoot this voltage issue.
First, if you are only getting 3 volts when testing with the truck parked that is because the brake controller # 90195 is a proportional brake controller and needs to sense the momentum of the truck and trailer braking to send the right amount of voltage back to the brakes.
If you are driving around and it is only reading 3, then I would recommend turning the gain all the way up and if you are still only getting 3 volts then you may have a short/open circuit on the brake output wire, or a bad ground on a brake magnet. For the short, I would recommend tracing the wire from the brake assembly forward looking for any pinched or frayed sections. For the grounding issue, I recommend running all of the brake magnet grounds back to the main trailer ground and make sure they are all secured to a clean bare metal surface.
If you continue to have issues after checking these steps, I would be more than happy to further troubleshoot this issue for you.
