Troubleshooting 4-Pole Trailer Wiring Harness on 2008 Subaru Outback Wagon

Question:

Hi, Ive been having a heck of a time trying to connect my wiring harness I purchased from your company and would really like some advice. I read over your wiring FAQ a number of times and think Ive tried everything on it. Heres my problem. When I wire up my harness 56146, I get incorrect lights on my trailer. My right turn light works, my brake light works on the right side, my taillights work, but my left side turn/ brake light is always solid. Ive tested the voltages coming directly out of the harness so I know it is not an issue with the trailer. The voltages coming out of the harness when no lights are turned on are: 0V running, 0V right turn, 12V left turn. I made sure the ground on the car was good triple checked it. I then tested the harness with a 12v power supply so I would be confident that I wasnt having an issue with insufficient power or ground capabilities. When connected to the power supply, I checked the trailer end of the harness and the same thing was happening: right signal nothing, left signal always on, running lights nothing. Im just really confused as to if Im missing something or not. Please let me know if you have any thoughts. Thanks.

Thank you for your purchase of towing components for your 2008 Subaru Outback Wagon including Curt wiring harness # C55370.

The yellow wire on this 4-pole harness carries both turn and brake light signals for the left-side light. Since your harness' left side output is always solid (it does not blink) then this suggests that the harness is damaged.

Please note that we do offer a custom-fit harness for the 2008 Outback Wagon (as long as it is not the Sport edition), part # 118461 from Tow Ready. This is a plug-in installation.
