Transmission Cooler and Temperature Gauge Recommendation for My 2015 Chevrolet Traverse
Question:
I will be replacing the standard non-towing radiator on my 2015 Chevrolet Traverse with the heavy duty towing radiator soon. This is a fairly involved and expensive procedure. Whilst I have the front end all apart Id like to install this cooler for extra piece of mind. I notice that you dont seem to be recommending the adaptor with this unit as you do with other coolers for the same vehicle. Do I need one? Also, is there an easy and economical way to monitor the transmission temp? Finally, is it possible to over cool a transmission as when not towing in cold weather? I assume the stock internal cooler also serves to warm the transmission fluid to normal temperatures under these circumstances. Thank you.

I have a transmission cooler solution for your 2015 Chevy Traverse that will help with your extra piece of mind.
Our most popular cooler for your vehicle is Derale's # D13503, this is a plate and fin style cooler.
Depending on the amount of spacing you will have with your engine you could mount this in three places, I like to think of them good (C), better (B), and best (A). I've attached a diagram for you to look at. The position that is the best is closest to the grill in front of the A/C condenser, better is just behind the condenser between the radiator, and good is behind the radiator between the engine. I would make sure you measure the spaces you will have to make sure my recommendation of # D13503 measuring at 11" Wide x 8-3/4" tall x 7/8" deep will fit. This cooler needs to have the Snap-In Adaptor Fitting for GM vehicles # D13035 for it to work on your 2015 Chevrolet Traverse.
An economical option for monitoring your transmission temperature is Derale's Remote Transmission Filter Kit with Temperature Gauge # D13091. It will just fit inline with your transmission cooler and provide you with a bonus filter to cut down on the time between fluid changes.
It is not possible to over cool a transmission, if you happen to be towing in a cold climate area. I would recommend you to let your engine warm up for about 10 minutes before using. This will allow for the fluid to warm up and lubricate the transmission better.
I've linked you to all the Transmission Coolers that are for your specific vehicle, in case you need a different size.
