Will Curt # C56040 T-Connector Operate Trailer Brakes
Question:
Does this harness control lights AND brakes? Thanks Code: C56040 Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector

The Curt # C56040 T-connector will plug into the connector in the cargo area of your 2016 Outback, and provide right turn, left turn running lamp and brake light signals for a trailer. The harness will not operate or actuate electric trailer brakes. In order to do that, you'll need some other items in addition to the C56040 harness.
If the trailer has electric brakes, you'll need to install a brake controller and a 7-way trailer connector onto your Outback. I'd recommend a proportional controller like the Prodigy P2, part # 90885. A proportional controller will provide safe and predictable braking.
You'll also need our brake controller installation kit, part # ETBC7. The kit includes an adapter that plugs into the 4-pole provided by the # C56040 and converts it into a 7-way.
I'll link you to some FAQ articles, as well as to some installation videos that I'm sure you'll find helpful.
