Installing Tow Ready 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter on 2012 Toyota Highlander

Instructional video is outstanding! Although the video 2015 Highlander shows splicing into the reverse hot wire at the top of the rear window, is there a reason why I cannot splice into one of the two wires that connects to the left or right reverse light bulbs? Thanks!

On the 2015 Toyota Highlander, the reverse lights are located on the back hatch, so the installer had to splice into the reverse light wire at the top of the rear hatch in order to install the Tow Ready 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter # 20036.

Based on my research, the 2012 Highlander has the reverse lights in the same housing as the brake, turn, and taillights. If this is the case, you would want to connect to the reverse light wire behind the light housing on either the left- or right-hand side of the vehicle, as you mentioned. You will want to test the wire with a circuit tester, like # PTW2993 to ensure that you find the correct wire that only has signal when the vehicle is in reverse.
