Is Grinding Required for Draw-Tite 75758 Installation on 2015 Ford Escape
Question:
Just a quick installation question. I notice in your video, the installer is filing down the Cars frame hole to allow bolt ion. I have no problem doing that howerver is there a reason why I cant simply grind down one side of bolt top to make the ion. Any time I have done anything to a Cars frame it becomes a rust point which I want to avoid. Thoughts on this? Thanks.

Helpful Expert Reply:
Our installer did use a rotary grinding tool to enlarge the frame access hole on the 2015 Ford Escape shown in the linked video. We consider this to be better than grinding off some of the bolt head on the installation hardware since doing that could potentially cause heat build-up in the hardware that could (again, potentially) affect its strength. Enlarging the frame hole is probably just easier too.
You can use some anti-corrosive paint or similar sealant to protect the exposed metal on the frame after you enlarge the hole.
