Can Sliding 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch be Slid Back All the Time for Regular Towing
Question:
I just purchased a husky slider fifth wheel hitch due to clearance issues . Question is it safe to tow with the hitch extended 9inch towards the rear of truck? Has apposed to towing at zero position ? Does the 9inch really throw of the balance of truck and trailer ? My truck is 2015 ram 2500 and fifth wheel is 2015 28foot cougar. Thanks

When using a slider 5th wheel trailer hitch you should only tow with it in the forward most position and not when slid back. The hitch should only be slid back when making tight maneuvers that require more clearance.
If the trailer where slid back all the time it could cause the front of the truck to lift up a little. This will cause steering and braking problems as well as visibility issues. Also, the truck weight capacity behind the rear axle is less than with the hitch in the proper towing position which should be centered above or slightly forward of the rear axle.
For a 5th wheel hitch that slides automatically 14 inches and fits in industry standard above the bed rails I recommend the HiJacker # DM8550034. I have linked a video review of this hitch for you.
