Recommended Trailer Brake Controller and Wiring Adapter for 2016 Jeep Cherokee 4X4 with Tow Package
Question:
I just purchased a 2016 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 V6 with the tow package. It seems like I now need to add an electric brake controller. I see the custom wiring harness Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller 90195-3014P listed as working with the 2015 Cherokee. Will it work with the 2016?

The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 that you referenced is among the most reliable and highly-rated such units that we offer. This controller will indeed plug in to the factory port in your 2016 Jeep Cherokee with the tow package. The factory brake controller port should be behind the black cover located to the left of the steering column, just above the carpet. The actual connector may be tucked up or taped to other wiring so you might have to explore a bit under the dash to locate it. The linked photo shows the general area where the connector should be located.
According to my technical contact at Tekonsha the appropriate wiring adapter for the 2016 Cherokee is part # 3014-P.
I have also linked an installation video showing the P3 being installed in a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Although that vehicle uses a different wiring adapter the overall process is the same.
