Hydraulic Drum Brakes Recommended with Demco Hydraulic Trailer Brake Actuator
Question:
Hello, Plan to replace brakes on my Calkins boat trailer. Currently 3500 lb axle. 10inch brakes. I plan to go with Demco 40715 and 40716. Trailer currently has Atwood 84132 coupler/hitch assembly. Master cylinder is shot and there is corrosion in the area. Also the small shock absorber inside the assembly appears to be leaking. I am thinking about replacing the whole thing with Demco DM72VR. Trying to save $$$ and with the 40715 and 40716 it doesnt appear that I will need the reverse lockout. Thanks for your help!

With a broken master cylinder and shock, replacing the actuator is a great plan. The Demco Hydraulic Trailer Brake Actuator # DM72VR will work great with the Demco Hydraulic Drum Brakes # 40715 and # 40716 that you referenced. Since the actuator # DM72VR doesn't have a reverse lockout, the free-backing brakes will work great for you.
Usually, free-backing brakes are more reliable than reverse lockout couplers.
I have attached an installation video of the Demco Hydraulic Trailer Brake Actuator # DM72VR for you. I have also attached an installation video of the Demco # 40716 and # 40715 brakes.
