Can Tool Box Be Installed In 2014 Ram With A Short Bed With Fifth Wheel Hitch Installed
Question:
We are considering a fifth wheel camper but need to be able to carry a tool box between the cab wall and the fifth wheel hitch. I have a Ram 1500 5 1/2foot bed. Do you know how much clear space I will have between the hitch and the front wall?

You can take a couple measurements to see if you have room in the bed of your Ram 1500 truck for a tool box with a fifth wheel hitch installed.
For a fifth wheel hitch bed rails like part # RP30035-386, you would measure 26-5/16 inches from the back edge of your truck bed(tailgate end). That is where the edge of the fifth wheel rail would be. Then measure 28-1/4 inches from that point toward the cab. That is where the front bed rail edge would wind up. This only leaves you about 11 inches from the bed rails to the front of the bed. I would not recommend taking up that entire space with a tool box.
With the 5-1/2 ft bed you will need a stationary fifth wheel hitch and you would need a Sidewinder on your trailer to have enough clearance when making turns. You will want to find the pin box number on the trailer and find the replacement Sidewinder pin box. I have attached a link to our product page for the Sidewinder pin boxes we offer you can check out.
