Trailer Jack Recommendation for Boat Trailer 8,500 Pound Gross Towing Weight
Question:
When picking out a replacement jack for our boat trailer, is the stated weight based on gross weight or trailer weight. Our trailer has a gross weight of 8500 lbs and a trailer weight of 1700 lbs. I have welded, side mount, pull pin swivel, with foot jack. Thanks

When choosing a jack for your trailer, you want to choose one that surpasses the tongue weight of the trailer when it is fully loaded. The tongue weight of the trailer is typically between 10 - 15 percent of the weight of the trailer. A jack that easily surpasses your trailer's tongue weight is certainly okay to use.
I recommend the Bulldog Round, A-Frame Jack - Topwind - 15" Lift - 5,000 lbs # BD155032. This jack will weld on like your existing jack, and it is also a side frame mount, swivel jack - pull pin, with a foot. This jack has a lift capacity of 5,000 pounds and offers 15 inches of lift. When retracted, the jack measures 10-5/16 inches and when extended it measures 25-5/16 inches. I have attached a review video of this jack for you.
