Ball Mount Recommendation for a 2016 Ford F-350 with 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Hitch

Question:

I have a 2016 Ford F350 diesel with a 2 1/2 inch receiver. My main trailer I will be towing is a 3 horse slant with a empty weight close to 4000 pounds. The measurement from level ground to the bottom edge of the trailer coupler is 17 1/2 inches. The measurement from level ground to the upper inside edge of the truck receiver is 23 inches. I want to go with a cushioned ball mount, so do I round up from 17 1/2 to 18 and go with a 5 inch or round down for a 6 inch . Lastly, I would like 2 ball mounts one for the horse trailer at 2 5/16 inches and another 2 inch for general use, utility trailer, rental trailers, etc. with that said which balls would you recommend? Thank You.

Since the tongue weight of the trailer will pull down a little on the truck you can go with a ball mount that has a 5 inch drop. I actually recommend going with an adjustable ball mount that has multiple balls, # WS6-25.

This ball mount has a 2 inch and 2-5/16 inch ball, a built-in tongue weight scale, and the height can be adjusted in 1 inch increments. It is also made of aluminum so it won't rust.

If you want to go with a regular cushioned ball mount then the best option for a 2-1/2 inch hitch is going to be # AMSCV-6. For a 2 inch ball use # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball use # 19286.
