Fifth Wheel Clearance Recommendations Between Bed Rails and Truck Cab

Question:

Have a 2015 RAM 3500 Mega Cab SRW SB truck, with a custom service bed. Dont have a 5th wheel trailer at this time but want to keep tow options open. I want to purchase a Tool box with auxiliary fuel tank. Maybe an L shaped tank. Maybe something about 5 inch over the bed rails. How high above the bed can the tank be if it is only 50-52 inch long and 20inch wide. and still leave the 5th wheel hitch unobstructed. Something would have to hit the cab before it might hit tool box / tank, right? With a 6-7inch bed to overhang clearance, tank you be ok even on a 90 degree turn?

Expert Reply:

Between the overhang of a fifth wheel hitch and the bed rails (or in your case fuel tank), you want at least 5-6 inches of clearance. Preferable more though.

Between the cab of your truck and the overhang of the truck you would want at least 4 inches while in a 90 degree turn.
