First, I recommend checking the size of the diameter of the hitch ball you are using. The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator # T2478100 is designed for use with 2-5/16 inch diameter hitch balls. If the hitch ball is too small, the coupler may be hitting the hitch ball too far down and preventing a secure connection.
If you are using a 2-5/16 diameter hitch ball, it sounds like there may be something preventing the actuator from hooking fully around the hitch ball. The shoulder of the hitch ball may be getting in the way of the actuator coupler securing around the ball. The trailer may need to be raised up a little higher with the jack so that the wedge on the coupler does not hit the shoulder of the hitch ball.
We have a replacement breakaway lever # T1054100 that is designed to work with Titan Model 10 and 20 Actuator. But we do not carry a replacement coupler latch.
