What Fifth Wheel Hitch Height is Needed to Tow 2015 Stealth 2812G w/ 2014 Ford Super Duty Short Box
Question:
Im purchasing a 2015 Stealth 2812G Fifth wheel and will be towing it with my 2014 3/4ton Ford Superduty shortbox. Im thinking of buying either the Curt or Reese hitch however, I have noticed a variation in the height adjustment between the two styles Reese 14inch - 17inch for example and Curt 171/2inch - 20 1/2. How significant is the variation to my towing application and should I be targeting one height range over another. My truck has 1 ton overloads installed so it sits pretty level with the anticipated tongue weight of the unit. Thank you,

In order to determine which hitch is going have the correct height for towing the 2015 Stealth 2812G with your 2014 Ford Super Duty short box, you will want to take a couple of measurements.
With truck and trailer both sitting level, measure the distance from the floor of your truck bed to the ground and from the underside of the pin box / skid plate (not the king pin) to the ground. The difference between the two measurements is the vertical adjustment that you will need for your set-up.
I have included a link to our fifth wheel hitches and install kits recommended for your 2014 Ford Super Duty. Once you have your vertical adjustment measurement, you can use the filters on the page to narrow your search.
When it comes to an installation kit, I highly recommend going with one of the custom kits. The brackets included in a custom kit mount to existing holes in the frame of the truck which minimizes drilling and measuring, drastically cutting installation time. For example, if you need a hitch with a vertical adjustment of 16 inches, you could use the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, # RP30075, and Quick-Install Custom Base Rails, # RP50026-58.
To add a 7-way trailer connector to the bed of the truck you will also need part # 41157. I have attached an installation video for you.
