Should a Reese Friction Sway Control/Weight Distribution System be Greased
Question:
My kit has the spring bars, Trunnion system no chains with the friction pads. Question: When dealer installed system I noticed that the small dual friction pads were rusted and being new...supposedly, I couldnt understand why. 1 Can I put hitch grease on these friction pads as I will on the Trunnion ends and hitch ball? 2 Do I raise and remove the wood boards below the 4 stabilizing jacks BEFORE hitching up and hooking up the sway bars? Thank you I am new at travel trailering!

It sounds like you have a Reese Steadi-Flex system such as # 66557. The friction pads are similar to metallic disc brake pads and could shows signs of corrosion. It would get rubbed off during the first trip towing the trailer so no worries.
You will not want to grease the spring bars or the friction pads. The friction is how the sway control feature works. If you used grease there would be no friction and thus no sway control!
When hooking up you will couple the truck and trailer together then raise the jacks so the weight is being held at the ball. Then you would engage the spring bars. I have included some helpful links on weight distribution and sway control for you.
