Adapting a 5th Wheel Trailer with a Gooseneck Trailer Hitch
Question:
I have a Ford F-150 and have recently purchased a fifth wheel trailer. The F150 is a 2006 with the 5.4 engine and factory tow package. Im looking at changing over the fifth wheel to a goose neck so I dont loose my truck bed when not pulling the trailer. I the Rv that we have is a keystone 26 foot that has a dry weight of 5560 lb. can you tell me what you would recommend for he adaptor. Im having a B and W hitch installed. Additionally with the size of the camper we have is it OK to pull with the F150 4x4 extended cab 6.5 bed. Also I need a brake controller recommendation. As stated it does have the factory tow package 7 pin already installed. Thanks

You have a couple options for adapters though some trailer manufacturers will void a warranty if an adapter is used. You will need to contact the trailer manufacturer to determine if the trailer warranty will be voided if an adapter is used.
One option is the Demco Recon, part # DM8550045. It installs onto the gooseneck ball in your truck and provides a fifth wheel hitch. You can also add safety chains, # RM3230, to this set up.
There is also the type of adapter that attaches to the trailer king pin like the Ranch Hitch # AM3100. These types of adapters work well but do not offer the ride quality of the Goose Box and may void the trailer warranty. You can add safety chains to this set up as well using # AM3109.
I have linked an FAQ article that covers different adapters for you.
For a brake controller I recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.
To install this controller all you need is the proper install harness. For that you would want the part # 3035-P. I attached an install video for you to check out as well.
I also attached a help article that covers the basics of brake controllers for you to check out as well.
