When Adjusting Voyager Brake Controller, # 39510, On A 2004 Ford F150 The Green Light Stays On

Question:

I have a 04 F150 with the towing package, so I have the loose harness for the voyager brake controller to hook to. I installed the Voyager brake controller. When I plugged in the 7-way connection from truck to camper, the green light came on as it said it should. I tried to adjust the level setting. I followed the instructions...depressing the brake pedal and turning the level knob counter clockwise and all that. My problem is, the light continues to stay green except for when I move the slider to max. What is going on?

On your 2004 Ford F-150 with a factory towing package, the brake controller connection under the dash should be a port that the brake controller adapter will plug into. It should not be loose wires.

If you have the Ford Adapter, # 3035-P for your vehicle with a factory 7-way, that adapter is what you would plug into the port under the dash.

If there was no port under your dash, just loose wires for the brake controller connection, then it would have to be wired differently instead of color to color.

The red wire on the vehicle harness would go to the black wire on the brake controller. The light green wire on the vehicle harness would go to the red wire on the brake controller. The dark blue wire on the vehicle harness would go to the blue wire on the brake controller. The white wire on the vehicle would go to the white wire on the brake controller. There is also a brown wire on the vehicle harness that is not needed, so it can be taped out of the way.

I am sending a link to a video on a brake controller being installed on a 2004 Ford F-150.

Another thing to check is before you can do any adjustments to level the sensor, you need to make sure the Voyager brake controller is attached to the vehicle within the specifications listed in the instructions.

The brake controller needs to be mounted from -20 degrees nose down to 70 degrees nose up. You will want to try and get the brake controller as level as possible. Also the front of the Voyager brake controller needs to be horizontal.

Also make sure the trailer and tow vehicle are on level ground when doing the adjustments to level the sensor.
