4-Way Trailer Wiring for a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe with or Without a Factory Tow Package

Question:

Looking for a wiring harness for a trailer. Under the 2010 Santa Fe at the left rear there are two square connectors that appear to each have four pins laid out in a square pattern. It appears that each pin is covered by a small rubber/plastic cap. These are not within a body panel but exposed under the car. Are these hitch wiring connections? If so do you have a harness to fit these. They are definately shaped differently that the harness you show for prewired Santa Fes.

The plugs you found on your 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe sound like they go with the Draw-Tite T-One Vehicle Wiring, # 118258. After you remove those caps, they should look more like the connectors in 30159. If you found the plugs on the driver side near the muffler then this is the harness you need. If you are not certain you can have the dealer run the VIN to see if your Santa Fe has the factory tow package. If it does, those are the right connectors and the 30159 harness is the one you need.

If it turns out you do not have the tow package, I recommend the Draw-Tite Wiring, # 119178KIT. This is a hardwire kit with a circuit protected converter. You will just need access to the wires behind the taillight assemblies to install the harness.

Starting on the drivers side, attach the white wire to an existing ground point on the vehicle frame. Using the included circuit tester, find the wire that carries a signal in unison with the left blinker. Attach this wire to the yellow wire on the harness. Next, find the wire that carries a constant signal when the vehicle lights are on and attach it to the brown wire on the harness.
Then, look for the wire that carries a signal only when the brake pedal is pressed. Attach this wire to the red wire on the harness.

Next, you would route the green wire to the passengers side and attach it to the right turn signal wire. Find the wire that carries a signal in unison with the right blinker and attach it to the green wire.
