Comparing Curt and Reese 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Hitches for a 2003 Ford F-250
Question:
I have a 2003 F-250SD XL 4x4 w/factory hitch and wiring. Just got a 10,000lb. travel trailer with a tongue load around 1200lbs. used. Patrick picked the Titan over Curt, any reasons? And i understand the titan hardware is 3/4inch and ford uses 18mm, what size is the hardware used on the curt class v 2 1/2? Hope you can help!!

The biggest difference between Curt 2-1/2 inch trailer hitch # C15810 and discontinued Reese Titan hitch 45297 is the capacity. The Curt hitch is rated a little higher at 2,700 pounds tongue weight and 20,000 pounds gross trailer weight. The titan hitch is rated for 2,500 pounds tongue weight and 18,000 pounds gross trailer weight. Of course in either case the hitches will be limited to the capacity of the truck as stated in the owners manual of your 2003 F-250.
Considering that the trailer weighs 10,000 pounds with 1,200 pounds tongue weight, either of the hitches will work just fine. The Curt hitch is the more popular option and is the one I would go with.
The Titan hitch actually uses M14 bolts. The Curt hitch uses 9/16. I have linked the instructions for each and a video showing the Curt hitch being installed.
