I have a solution for you, and you will not need to cut into any wires.
If you do not have a factory tow package on your 2010 GMC Acadia, you will first need to install a 4-way wiring harness. I recommend the Tow Ready T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118451. This wiring harness will plug directly into the back of your taillights, into your vehicle's current wiring system. I have attached an installation video of this harness on a 2011 GMC Acadia.
The wiring harness has a 4-way flat connector, so you will also want to install an adapter. I recommend the Hopkins Adapter # 37185. This adapter will allow you to use both a 4-way flat and 7-way connectors. The adapter will require you to run some additional wires to the battery and your brake controller. If you are planning on installing a break controller and you want the battery charge wire, you will need the universal installation kit # ETBC7. I have attached a review video of this adapter for you.
If your 2010 Acadia has a factory tow package, you will only need a connector, such as this Hopkins Multi-Tow 7-way and 4-way Trailer Connector # 30955. This connecter will plug into a factory tow connector located at the rear of the vehicle. I have attached a review video of this multi-way connector for you.
If you do not already have a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195. If you have a factory tow package, you will also want the Tekonsha adapter # 3026-P to plug into your tow package. The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 is a proportional brake controller that can be mounted vertically within 360 degrees. This brake controller features an LCD display that offers user friendly road-side diagnostics. I have attached a review video of this brake controller for you.
