How to Trim Plastic Fascia for Hitch Ball Installation on Silverado 1500 OEM Step Bumper

Question:

Hello- I have a 2015 Silverado 1500 WT that I would like to mount this trailer hitch ball to the rear step bumper OEM beam. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to cut through the one piece step pad facia that covers the mounting shaft hole? There looks to be a faint circle 2 1/4inch diameter? and I assume that the cut hole should be bigger than hitch ball base. Thank you-

Helpful Expert Reply:

To install a hitch ball with a 1-inch shank, such as the Curt 3500-lb-rated 1-7/8-inch ball # C40017, you'll want to start by making a 1-inch hole in the plastic fascia using a drill bit. Initially you will want the hole to be only as large as needed to match the diameter of the shank of the hitch ball you're using. Start out with just the 1-inch diameter to accept the ball's shank, then enlarge the hole using a hole saw of the appropriate diameter to match the ball's base diameter.
