Expert Reply:
A 205/75D14 tire is going to be about 1-1/2 inches wider than a 175/80D14 tire and the overall diameter is about 1 inch larger. The important factors to consider when changing tire sizes to make sure you have enough clearance in your wheel well. This tire will sit 3/4 of an inch closer to the frame or inside wall of the wheel well and the tread will be about 1/2 inch closer to the wheel well. When choosing a new set of wheels, you also want to make sure you choose a wheel with the correct wheel bolt pattern for your hubs. If you do not know your wheel bolt pattern, take a look at the help article I attached titled Determining the Bolt Pattern of Your Wheel.

The difference between 75R or 75D is the construction of the tire. The R designates a Radial construction and the D designates a Bias Ply construction. Radial tires have more flex which give the tire better ground contact to reduce wear and heat build up. This type of tire is preferred if you frequently tow on paved roads or roads with smooth surfaces.
Bias ply tires have a stiffer sidewall to give the tire more rigidity. These types of tires are better suited if you frequently travel off-road such as gravel or dirt roads or if the trailer is primarily used in agriculture or construction.
