Base Plate Kit, Tow Bar, Safety Chains, and Light Kit to Flat Tow a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Falcon Tow Bar, # RM-520, needs to fit on the base plates that are vehicle specific for your 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I recommend the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit, # 1427-1 (will not fit the SRT-8 model or those with a brushguard). These base plates will work with the Falcon Tow Bar.

You will also need safety cables or chains as required by law. This is so if the vehicle becomes detached from the tow bar, the chains will keep the vehicle in tow until you can stop and correct the problem. I recommend the RoadMaster 68 inch Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables, # RM-643.

For wiring, there are two possible solutions. First is the short term solution. If you do not plan on flat towing the Cherokee very often, you can use the Magnetic Towing Light Kit, # RM-2120. These lights simply plug into a 4-flat connector and will stick to any metal surface.

The long term solution, if you plan on doing a lot of flat towing, is to wire the Cherokee for diodes. We have the Tail Light Isolating Diode System with Wiring Harness, # 38955. I have included two videos, an installation and a demonstration, featuring this diode kit.

Finally, make sure that you check with the manufacturer for instructions on the proper procedure for towing your vehicle. Some vehicles must be equipped with a transmission lube pump, an axle disconnect, drive line disconnect, or free-wheeling hubs before they can be towed.
