Tekonsha Voyager Operates Only With Brake Switch, Not With Brake Pedal
Question:
No brakes!!!!! The Voyager brake controller has power but the brakes do not activate. The manual slide activates them. I notice the blue wire under my dash is cut before the harness connects to the truck and is connected to a blue wire that rums to the back. I also just had the brake switch replaced because non of my brake lights in the truck worked. Please help Im moving a heavy load. 2005 dodge ram 1500.

I can explain the blue wire. On the 2005 Dodge Ram, vehicles that had the factory 4-pole trailer connector didn't have the blue wire from the under dash connector ran all the way to the back. The blue wire terminated in the engine compartment. Since it's easier to access the wire behind the brake controller, many folks just tap into it there.
The first thing you'll want to do is to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and test the red wire exiting the rear of the brake controller. You should see power on this wire when the brake pedal is pressed. If not, you might need to bypass the factory connection and connect the red controller wire to the brake switch. With the ignition on, use the circuit tester to probe the wires exiting the brake switch until you find the wire that only shows power when the brake pedal is pushed. Once you find the right circuit, cut the red wire exiting the controller and run that wire to the brake switch wire you found. You'll need a quick splice connector like part # 804C to tap the red wire into the circuit.
If you do find power on the red wire, the controller might not be operating with the brake pedal because the controller isn't leveled correctly. Check the operating instructions that I've linked for you and review the section about leveling and setting up the controller. It's a frequent occurrence that the controller gets knocked off kilter after somebody's knee bumps into it.
If the controller is leveled correctly, and still isn't operating with the brake pedal, it's possible that the controller is faulty and needs to be replaced. I'd recommend a more user-friendly controller like the Tekonsha Primus, part # TK90160. The controller is self leveling and is much easier to use than the Voyager.
