Availability of a Class III Hitch That Fits Both 2000 and 2015 Subaru Outback
Question:
Hello. Hope your day is a good one! Question: Is it possible to use a class 3 hitch on a 2000 Subaru Outback?? I will be upgrading to a 2015/16 in a couple years and want to get a 2inch hitch that would fit both the 2000 and 2015/16 with no major design changes. Thanks for your time.

We do offer options in a Class II hitch for your 2000 Subaru Outback wagon (but no Class III), and in both Class II and Class III types for the 2015 model year Outback Wagon, but no one single hitch fits both vehicles. It is very rare for a single hitch product to fit two vehicles whose model years are well over 10 years apart.
The links provided for you will show you the hitch options for each vehicle. We offer three options in a Class II for the 2000 as long as it is NOT the sport edition, such as # 36284; and we offer six hitch options for the non-Sport edition 2015.
The Class III hitch I recommend for the 2015 and 2016 model years is # 36284 from Draw-Tite because this hitch does not require use of a stabilizing strap for accessories which is the case for some others.
