Dimensions and Weight Capacity of the Dutton-Lainson Trailer Coupler # DL13847

Question:

Im looking for a replacement coupler for an old Poulan log splitter. I require a 1-7/8 or 2 ball, 2-1/2 channel, and either 2-1/4 or 3 mounting holes on center. This coupler F222500301 appears to fit the bill but the old coupler has a rather low, height profile, about 1-3/4. Ive found a Reese but its height was much greater and the mounting holes did not align. How does the F222500301 compare? Any suggestions?

The Fulton Trailer Coupler, # F222500301, fits on a 2-1/2 inch square channel. So it will be 3/4 of an inch too tall. But since couplers have mounting holes on the top and sides, you could use the top holes if the tongue on the log splitter has matching mounting holes. Something like the Dutton-Lainson Trailer Coupler, # DL13847, might be more forgiving in terms of mounting than the Master Lock.

I went out to the warehouse to measure the DL13847. The mounting holes on this coupler measure 3 inches from center to center. It has a depth (internal height) of about 2-1/8 inches. The coupler is 10 inches long and will accept a 2 inch ball, 2-1/2 inch channel tongue. It has a capacity of 3,500 pounds.
