Adding a Bumper Mount Hitch or Bike Carrier to a 1984 Itasca RV
Question:
My RV has a steal 4 inch by 4 inch back bumper. I am really interested in purchasing from you the receiver part # E-100. However, the folks who owned the RV before me use to tow a car thus they beefed up the back frame with the steal ball attached to it. It does not have a 2inch receiver which is required for most of the things that are built to slide into a 2inch receiver. The problem is when they beefed up the back of the fame it included a thin 4inch wide steal plate which was attached to the back side of the bumper which makes the bumper a bit over 4inch wide on that one side. Does the E-100 allow any type of wiggle room. The thin steal plate is a quarter inch thick maybe a bit less if Im reading it right. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You might be able to get Curt RV bumper hitch # E-100 around a 4-1/4 inch square tube but you would likely have to flex the hitch some and I do not recommend it because it would put extra stress on the welds.
The best and safest solution is to look at frame mount hitches. I have included a link to them for you. They may cost more but they will be much safer to use.
Another option, if you are looking to carry bikes using the bumper, is to use a bumper mount rack such as # S80605 for 2 bikes or # S80600 for 4 bikes. All of these carriers will fit a 4 to a 4-1/2 inch square steel bumper. I have linked videos on all of them for you.
