Troubleshooting Electric Brakes Not Working on Dual Axle Box Trailer  

Question:

I have a 2 axle box trailer. The electric brakes wont work.everything else works.when I plug the trailer in the light on the controller box comes on. I have no power on the blue wire coming or going . No bad fuses in cab or under hood.what do you thank ? Thank you.

In order to determine why the brakes aren't working on your dual axle trailer, I recommend first cutting the blue wire 5-6 inches behind the controller and use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993, to verify that power is present. Power should be present when the manual override control is used. If no power is present, the brake controller may be malfunctioning and require replacement.

The next step would be to test the 7-way on your tow vehicle. Using a circuit tester, verify that power is present on the brake output pin (which should be in the 5 o'clock position) when the manual override control is used. If no power is present, trace the blue wire looking for spots that have been nicked, pinched, or rubbed and have copper wire showing through the jacketing. Wrap any damaged areas with electrical tape.
