Replacing Current Brake Controller with Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 on 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

Hi, I currently have a Mopar brake controller installed on my 2015 Grand cherokee. I was interested in getting the P3. Will the wiring that works for the Mopar unit work with the P3 or will i have to purchase new wiring from controller to connector? Also, my Grand Cherokee has knee air bags and i watched the videos but cant really make out where the P3 gets installed. Is it into the plastic lip or into a metal strip under where the airbags live? Thanks in advance for your help. I just noticed the add a picture function on the ask an expert. Its night time now, but Ill be happy to take a pic and send it tomorrow of anything that might be helpful. Thank you very much.

I spoke with my technical contact at Tekonsha and with a little research we found that the brake controller that is currently in your 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee is actually an aftermarket controller manufactured by Curt but branded Mopar. When it comes to replacing this brake controller with the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller, # 90195, we recommend using the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter, # TK93VR, to ensure compatibility.

As for mounting the P3 in your Cherokee, there isn't a specific location that the controller must be mounted. This controller can be mounted at any vertical angle and the controller will level itself automatically thanks to its 360-degree rotational range. A popular mounting location is under the dash on the right side of the driver's area closest to the center console. In order to alleviate any concerns that you might have regarding the knee air bags, I suggest mounting the P3 in the same location as your current brake controller.

Since we have not tested using the Mopar/Curt brake controller wiring harness with the P3, we have no information as to whether the two are compatible.
