Can the Yakima HoldUp Bike Carrier be Used with a Hitch Extender
Question:
Will the Holdup 2 work with the HE6000 Sports Rack Extender? Otherwise is there enough length in the HE6000 receiver for the bike rack and receiver holes to line up? Thanks.

Expert Reply:
According to Yakima the HoldUp # Y02443 cannot be used with a hitch extender. The issue is that using an extender with a heavy bike rack that extends out pretty far itself would put tremendous stress on the hitch and cause damage. Also, when using a hitch extender it reduces the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent.
Ideally you would use a bike rack that has a long enough shank to clear what you need it to clear without the use of a hitch extender. I have included a link that should help narrow the field for you.
