Recommended Parts For Flat-Towing 2014 Honda CR-V With Reese Tow Bar

Question:

I have a Reese Tow Bar # 74950 and I was wondering if it is possible to fit it with a base plate and wiring harness for a 2014 Honda CRV-LX. Any information you can provide would help. Thanks

We do have just what you are looking for to tow your 2014 Honda CR-V.

I recommend the Roadmaster Base Plates, part # RM-521567-4. Since you said you have the Reese Tow Bar 74950, you will also need the adapter that allows you to use the Roadmaster base plates, # RM-521567-4 with your tow bar. To order the adapter you will need part # RM-025.

If you plan on using the removable Roadmaster brackets you will also need the Quick Disconnect Kit, part # RM-201.

To wire the lighting on your CR-V when towing I recommend the Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring, part # HM56304. You can easily install this wiring harness without cutting or splicing into your CR-V wiring by locating the connection points behind the vehicle tail lights, and just plugging in the harness. This will not affect the electrical system of your CR-V when it is not hooked up for towing.

You will also need to pull fuses when towing so I recommend making the job much easier by installing a fuse bypass like part # RM76511. After installing this bypass all you need to do is flip the switch from 'Drive' to 'Tow' and you are ready to go without having to physically remove the fuse every time.

When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.

You will also need safety cables when towing. I recommend part # RM-643. These are coiled, vinyl-coated cables prevent scratching and chipping the paint on your tow bar.

Most states now require a supplemental brake system when flat-towing. I recommend the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Proportional Braking System, part # RM-9400. This is a proportional brake system that activates the vehicle brakes when the towing =vehicle brakes are applied.

I have attached links to some helpful articles and videos you can check out.
