Trunk Mount Bike Carrier for 2 Mountain Bikes

Question:

What is the bst 2 bike rack that will fit 2 mountain bikes on the trunk. I was thinking the thule Gateway th88vr but I am not sure. Around $200.00 if possible. Thank you very much

To be able to choose the best trunk mount bike carrier that fits your budget and your needs I would need to know the year, make, and model of the vehicle.

The Thule Gateway, Pro # TH88VR is a great rack for you. It holds two bikes, has adjustable arms and Anti-sway features. It attaches with 6 ratcheting straps.

Another option is the Saris Bones, # SA805BL, is a popular rack. Like the Gateway, the Bones does not feature locks and the cradles are very different than the Thule racks. This rack also has a 70 pound capacity and is very light weight. I have linked video reviews of all both racks for you.

If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have to use these adapters and without them my wife's bike would be at a severe angle and I would not be able to load my son's bike at all. I have linked a video showing how the adapter works.
