Comparing Installation of Curt and TowReady Wiring Harnesses for 2014 Toyota Sienna
Question:
I am looking at hitch and wiring options for my 2014 Toyota Sienna. I saw there are two custom wiring options, the curt and the tow ready. I saw the install videos and I like how the tow ready wiring can be stored behind the access panel on the passenger side so I can still store my jump seat. I was wondering if the Curt wiring has to be on the drivers side, or if I should just get the tow ready wiring. Thanks.

The installation of the two trailer wiring harnesses you referenced, TowReady # 118498 and Curt # C56106, will be quite similar on your 2014 Toyota Sienna. Both are powered converters that will draw the required power for your trailer's lights from the vehicle battery rather than through its own wiring. This isolates the vehicle's wiring from faults that could otherwise potentially cause damage to it. It also helps ensure brighter light output on the trailer.
The converter box on the Curt harness will have to be located on the left side of the vehicle since the left-hand wiring is fairly short. The right hand wiring (the green wire) will be run to the right-hand light assembly. Since both harnesses offer similar current capacities, if you prefer the installation process for the TowReady then by all means that makes this a better option for you.
