Brake Controller Installation on 2013 Nissan Frontier with 4-Pole Flat trailer Connector Installed
Question:
Question on adding a brake controller. I have a 2013 Nissan Frontier S that did not have a factory tow hitch. I bought a towing package along with a 4 pin connector with the relay #118525 from you all which works great by the way. If I were to add this brake controller in the future, what would I need to make this work? Thanks

Adding a brake controller to your 2013 Nissan Frontier that already has a working 4-pole flat trailer connector is a simple process that requires only two parts.
First you will need a brake controller installation kit, part # ETBC7. This kit includes everything you'll need, except for the controller itself. The kit includes a 7-way RV-style blade socket, wiring, butt connectors, zip ties, circuit breakers and even a circuit tester to help you find the correct wires on the vehicle. I have linked both a video and two articles that illustrate the brake controller installation process.
I also linked you to an article concerning the two types of brake controllers available, the time-delay type such as the Curt Venturer # C74VV that you referenced and the generally-preferred proportional type like the highly-rated Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885.
Proportional controllers are preferred because they apply the trailer brakes in direct relation to how hard the tow vehicle is braking. Time-delay units apply a pre-determined amount of braking power every time you press the pedal. This means that a time-delay controller will tend to increase wear on both your Frontier and trailer brakes.
Another advantage of a proportional controller like the P2 is that it will work with both electric and electric-over-hydraulic trailer brakes; the Venturer works only with electric trailer brakes.
