Tekonsha Voyager Not Reading Trailer Connected to a 1994 Chevy C1500 Pick Up
Question:
I installed the tekonsha voyager controller to a 1994 chevy c1500, we connected the red wire to the yellow wire on the brake switch, we took the blue wire and connected it directly to the trailer connector and the hot and ground to the battery. We have no green light on the controller and no humming from the trailer brakes...Do we need to connect the blue or red wires differently in order for it to work properly? We are hooking this up for a livestock trailer, not a rv.

The blue wire should be run directly to the trailer connector. This circuit should continue on to the brake magnets. Each magnet should have two wire leads. One of these leads should be connected to the brake controller output circuit. The other should be grounded to the trailer frame.
The black brake controller wire should be wired directly to the positive terminal on the battery with a circuit breaker in-line to protect the brake controller. If you have a 1-2 axles with brakes you should use a 20 amp circuit breaker like part # 9506P. 3-4 axles with brakes would need a 30 amp breaker, part # 38630. The white can either be run to the negative terminal on the battery or another good ground connection point.
The red wire may be your culprit. If you have a circuit tester, test the truck wire that you connected the red controller wire to. That wire should be cold until you press the brake pedal. Typically on a GM truck in this year range, you would be connecting to a white wire in the bundle underneath the dash. The yellow and green wires will also go hot when the brake is pressed, but those are the turn signal wires and you do not want to use those.
I have linked to a video of a brake controller install on a 1993 Chevy Suburban. Start at the 7:25 mark. The installer shows you what wire he used and talks about the turn wires. I suspect you need to switch this connection, but use a circuit tester to make sure.
