Troubleshooting Tekonsha # 39510 Voyager Brake Controller That's Intermittently Reading the Trailer

i hooked trailer up other day light came on then back off, after a while light came on controller worked fine, then light kept flickering on and off.in 2005 chevy 3500 so it plugs right in under the dash..

It sounds like you have an intermittent connection problem. The vast majority of the time, this is caused by a dirty, damaged or corroded trailer connector. Examine the connector on your vehicle and on the trailer. Look for any damage and replace the connectors if needed. Part # HM40975 would be a good replacement for the vehicle, and # A7WCB for the trailer side. Check the pins and sockets of the connectors for any white or green corrosion. If the corrosion is severe, it might have spread to the interior of the connector and is preventing the brake controller from 'reading' the trailer. This can also be caused by a loose connection in the brake output circuit on the trailer or a loose connection or ground at the brake assembly magnets.

Excessively worn brake magnets can also cause this. Pull your hubs and examine the face of the brake magnet that rides against the inside surface of the brake drum. If the face of the magnet is worn away to the point where you can see the copper wiring from the interior of the magnet, the magnets should be replaced.

Check the items I mentioned above. If you still don't locate the problem, please let me know and we'll look into some other possibilities.
