Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen
Question:
I cant tell from the photo whether this hitch is designed just for small items like a bicycle, or whether it can be used to tow a trailer up to 2000lb. Im looking at the hitch for a 2014 VW Jetta Sportswagon.

Actually the Curt part # C11474 that you referenced can be used for either purpose. It can carry bike racks or cargo carriers, or tow a small trailer that weighs up to 2,000 lbs. Check out the install video I attached for more information. You should note that just because this hitch is rated that doesn't mean your vehicle is capable of that. If the owners manual of your vehicle states a lower capacity then you would need to use that as the overall capacity.
Since it is a Class I hitch you would be limited to only carrying up to 2 bikes. I attached an FAQ article on hitch classifications for you to check out. A very popular bike rack we offer is the Swagman XTC2 part # S64670. This rack has a ton of positive reviews from our customers who have tried it so I would recommend it for you. Check out the review video I attached for it.
If you do plan on doing some light towing you would need the recommended ball mount part # 3593, wiring kit part # C59496 and the hitch balls # 19256 and # 19258.
