Konig's Easy Fit snow chains are are just that - an easy fit. Just slide them over the tire and step on a pedal to tension them. The chains finish self-tensioning after a full tire rotation. These are excellent if you're looking for chains that are completely effortless because there's no reaching around the tire to make connections, driving forward and rechecking the tension, or crawling around on the cold, wet ground to install them. Removing the Easy Fit is just as simple - pull the red pin in the middle and push the red buttons at the bottom of the center element to release tension, then unwrap the chain from around the tire.

They're also great all-purpose winter weather chains. so if you live in an area where you're likely to get periodic snow and ice, these Konig chains are perfect because they're durable and incredibly easy to mount. If you're more likely to see seriously icy conditions, you may want a chain with square or V-bar links that can really bite into the ice to give you maximum traction.

Konig snow chains are handmade in Italy of hardened manganese nickel alloy steel for ultimate durability. The center tensioning element on each Easy Fit chain is made of rustproof aluminum for lasting effectiveness.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's owner's manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you wont be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even these low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Chains

Installing these chains is incredibly easy and it doesn't require crawling around on the cold, wet ground to make connections, or getting out to readjust them after driving a short distance.

Pull sides of the rigid arch apart to extend wire

1. Open the rigid arch section of the chain and pull the sides apart.

Tuck the rigid arch behind the tire, starting at the top, and tug chains down

2. Drape the chain over the top of the tire and tug down to fit it all the way around the bottom. (If you're testing these on bare pavement, the red cable may not fit under your tire like it would in snow.)

Flip pedal out, step on it until it clicks

3. Flip the pedal out and step on it, pushing it down the track of the center bar until it clicks in place at the bottom.

Replace pedal into travel position and attach tensioners to side chains

4. Pop the pedal back into the locked position.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chains, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates the width
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Video Transcript for Konig Self-Tension Low-Pro Snow Chains Review

Adam: Hi, everyone. Adam with etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Konig easy-fit snow tire chains. Apparently these are super easy to install. So, today we're going to put them to the test just so you guys will find out if they really are easy to install. Fresh out of the box, actually a pretty durable bag, a little dirty, but durable bag.

And I think we're going to have a set of two in here. So, let's check that out.Cool. So, we have a pair of two and there's actually some instructions here. And we have instructions here. We are going to get a little bag with some goodies in it.

It is going to be hook and loop so you won't lose them. So, we are going to get some gloves here. If you don't have them in your car, I do suggest keeping them in your car because these aren't really going to be too warming. But then we have step one.So we're going to grab the chains from this section here and we're going to have these loops and they're actually going to go all the way around, and we're going to do it just to the ones that are really close to this middle section here. These are included with the kit in that little bag that we showed you, and you're going to take one with a stem and then one with a hole in it.

Set those aside, and all we're really going to do, we're going to have the side that doesn't have a hole in it and a little stem and just squeeze them together. So this is just going to be the prep work so you don't have to redo it every single time you install your chains. Once you get it done, you don't have to do it again. So you just go ahead and finish up all the other ends and clip them together. I'm going to go ahead and do that now and we'll get started.Once you get step one done, you can just go ahead and either put them on your tires, but we're actually going to go walk and grab them and go to a car and put them on. So I'm going to bag these up.

And I have noticed a lot of these kind of style tire chains are really hard to actually wrap up and get them into the bag. These don't really come apart, so definitely bagging them up is easier than most. So, it's doing pretty good so far. Let's see how easy it is to put on our tires. So these tire chains are going to be able to fit multiple different size tires. So, just go on your car and find your tire size if you don't know it and then go ahead and put it into our fit guide, and then you'll be able to grab the right size for you. In this instance, we are going to be using 235/55R19. So if you guys don't know where your tire size is, usually almost always are going to be around the rim here. All right, so they we're saying that you can actually use this as a pad for your knees. All right, so the first thing we need to do is press in these two tabs here and also pull this out and we can take our red side here. Actually stretch them all the way out. And the red section is going to go at the bottom of your wheel, and this section up here goes to the top. We are going to start with the top, bring in this black loop all the way around to the back end of our tire. I'm going to do the same with our bottom sections here and get them as far back as you can.I am getting a little hung up here, so make sure the red little rope goes completely underneath your tire just so you can get that all the way around back. So, once you to do that, pull that down, step on it till you hear it click. Once you hear it click, we are going to have a decent amount of tension. We are going to roll over a couple times and come back out and check it, and if everything is in order, these will tighten up a little bit as you drive down and you should be ready to hit the road.So it only took me about 60 seconds or so to put this on and get it all secured into place. Yes, that's pretty quick. I didn't have to get underneath the car and actually crawl down because, you know, if you're putting on snow tire chains there's probably snow on the ground. So that's definitely a plus for me. There's a lot of moving parts and a lot of extra features in here. If you're looking for something basic, there is a bunch here at etrailer.com, and it might just be a little bit longer to put on, but it's a very more basic chain. It's going to do the same exact thing and these are going to be a diamond pattern, but what's unique about these diamond patterns is the link here, whenever it splits off, there's actually an extra link. So, it's just going to make it hold up over time. They are made of a manganese nickel alloy steel, and they're going to wear evenly and just resist rust and corrosion. It also thinks about your car as well. The chains here are plastic and they have a little coating on it, so they're just going to be easier on your hands and also, if they make contact with your nice rim here, it's not going to make any damage. Also, there is a softer coding on the back too, just in case it hits your rim as well. So it takes care of you and your rims and, again, it was a really quick and easy install and it's just as quick to get them off. Other than that, we do have a D-link shape, so it's going to wear relatively evenly. They're not the most aggressive snow tire chains you can get, but with a low clearance wheel well, as you see here, you don't necessarily want the aggressive ones. This is a S-Class certified, so it is going to be made for those lower clearance wheel wells as you see here. But other than that, honestly, I would definitely give this a thumbs up. It's a cool different design. Super quick and easy. Comes with a good carrying case. Quick on, quick off. So I would definitely recommend. So that's just about all you really need to know about the Konig easy-fit snow tire chains.

Konig Easy Fit Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - Square Link - Self Tensioning - 1 Pair - TH04115060

Average Customer Rating:  4.4 out of 5 stars   (40 Customer Reviews)

Fit these chains over your tire, step on the pedal, and you're ready to go. These lightweight chains are fast to install and easy to tension. Provides consistent traction and a smooth ride when driving in snow and on light ice.

by:

I purchased chains for my 2017 VW GTI. They fit very well on the low profile tire and were easy to install. However on the first use to Tahoe in snowy conditions the chains performed very poorly. Per the chain controls in effect that day I had to install them at the chain control checkpoint. No issues installing them with the instructions. After about 1.5 hours of driving on the snow covered roads at the reduced speed, I noticed a very loud noise coming from the front right tire. While attempting to pull over to inspect, the chain suddenly flew off my right tire into the freeway with fast moving SUVs and trucks. I was unable to retrieve the lost chain and had to finish the trip with only the front left in place. When it was time to return home the roads had been cleared and chains were no longer needed. I found the chain extremely difficult to remove and it considered cutting them off. Eventually after much effort I was able to forcefully remove the chain since the tensioning system would not release. By the end of the day the chains were completely useless; one lost and the other broke. I was lucky to have made it safely but only barely. I would not use them again.

I've owned four sets of Thule Easy-Fit CU-9 tire chains over the years. I need them because they're fast and easy to mount and fast and easy to remove and I often have to mount or remove the chains while out on the road in snow. There have been times when the red cable froze on one of the chains and I couldn't remove it. I couldn't spread the hoop from behind the tire and it was a real headache. I had cut the red cable once ending the life of the chain and other times had to leave the car hoping for warmer weather to unfreeze the red cable so I could remove the chain.

These days and for the past few years I lubricate the red cable with silicone spray twice per winter. Lubricating the cable keeps the red cable from freezing-up. Unless the CU-9's have been redesigned not too long ago to give a better performance regarding the red cable I cannot give a five-star review. I'd leave only 3 stars. These tire chains are way overpriced. They also rust very easily making a mess inside the storage bag and that's with keeping them dry in between uses. Other than the red cable and the rust these chains have they have always performed well offering good traction even on ice. However still, I'd only give three stars.

Went on as easy as in the U Tube video. Had a fresh 12 inch snow to test them with. I have a Ford F-250 4x4 and the little front wheel drive Mazda went better than the truck. No shoveling the driveway, just went back and forth and packed down the snow. Only thing I question is the bungy cord part of the chains. If that part will possible dry rot. The Thule chains make the car feel unstoppable. Ice snow I made 4x4s look bad. When you have chains that go on and come off this easy you are more inclined to use them. LoveEm

by:

These chains are super easy to put on and take off. My only complaint is that after two uses, the pedal that you push down to activate the tensioning broke off. I have four of these chains, and the issue only happened on one of them. I did just see that there's a five year warranty, so perhaps I'll be able to get a replacement chain or replacement pedal!

by:

I bought these in spring so I haven't tested them in snow yet, but I must say I am very happy with them, yes, literally 12 seconds per side, AWESOME product, Imagine having to change regular chains on a busy interstate with Semi's flying by, SCARY, not with these! Super Fast and good quality. etrailer.com was great to work with too! Attaching a photo doesn't do justice, I suggest anyone to watch etrailer's video, that's what sold me as well as YouTube vid's.

Positives:

These chains are very
easy to put on and take off. They are far superior to any other solution in deep snow.

Neutral:

Make sure that you have read the instructions, and practiced using them before you need them.

Negatives:

The thick bar section will shake your car badly if it's driven on parts of the road that don't have deep snow. It's a bit worse than chains with more similar sections.

Conclusion:

Buy the chains. Use the chains. But also install Winter tires.

by:

The easiest chains I have ever owned. Only caveat - these really need to be strapped on while the car is on pavement or anything flush because they are a TIGHT fit. I have an M240 and tried to strap them on in a gravel/dirt driveway that had alreeady been snowed upon. Even after shoveling the chains couldn’t quite slip all the way under, so I had to drive to the nearest asphalt, then it was a breeze. So worth the money to have something that can slip on and off in minutes.

by:

I used these chains on my Prius for the first time on New Year's Eve. In the dark. In the slushy, icy cold. I'm a small, not particularly strong woman. They were so easy to use! The instructions are displayed inside the storage bag, which doubles as a mat so that you don't need to kneel or sit in the snow while you put the chains on. It took me a moment or two to understand that you can create a LOT of slack in the ring before you try and tuck them behind the wheels. Once I figured that out, it was easy to put them on and use the foot pedal to fasten them. Easy on, easy off. With one practice session, I can install and remove in less than 5 minutes.

by:

I've only used them once.

I had trouble
getting them off. the peddle does not release up like in the videos. I was able to finaly get them up by sticking scissors in the slot over the peddle and pulling up, and now it appears they are stuck a couple inches from the top. but at least I got them off my car.

by:

We live in the mountains of Colorado and my wife drives her Honda Civic to work 50 miles away on most days. Our house is 3.5 miles off of paved roads and a 1200' climb over poorly maintained dirt and gravel roads. These chains are so easy to install that she can usually put them on or remove them in less than 5 minutes, even in dark, snowy conditions. We would be purchasing a different car for her if we didn't have these chains.

by:

These fit my Mini Cooper perfectly and are really easy to get on! I haven't had the chance to use them in the snow yet, but they seem to be very sturdy.

by:

Buying the right tire snow chains for my Honda Civic was easy with etrailer. Shipping was very fast. I ordered late on a Saturday and I received my chains the next Thursday. I'm extremely satisfied with my experience with etrailer

by:

purchased for my daughters car...have not see its use but can comment on etrailer customer service as excellent. they fixed and order glitch quickly and kept me informed of progress all through the cycle

by:

I live in California and have Mini Cooper - a perfect car for 350 days in any given year. I go to the mountains 5 weekends in a year and 2-3 times I really need chains for 10 miles over the summit. It takes 5 minutes to put these on and another 5 to take them off. Can't beat the convenience.

by:

This set of chains are extremely well packaged for carrying chains to comply with CalTrans requirements that 4 wheel drive cars with snow/mud tires must carry chains. This was important to me since in the past 20 years I have never had to put on chains going, at or returning from Mammoth. I did a test install and they were easy to install. etrailer information provided was also excellent and the package was sent timely.

by:

Pretty cool chain construction. This is my third pair of chains -- every car seems to require a new chain size. So, I had used your regular cable chains on my previous car and it was a big pain to put on and take off. For the new car I decided to get these "easy fit". I have not yet tested the chains in the snow, but putting them on on a parking lot proved to be as easy as the video suggested. My advice: 1. watch the review videos here on the site; 2. practice putting on/taking off the chains in a warm place without snow; 3. enjoy. Having chains that are easy to put on is plain safer -- you do not think twice about mounting them, so you are more likely to have them on when you hit that particular ice spot on a road.

by:

The tire chains seems to be of a very good quality. The instructional booklet attached explain in detail how to set it up and take them out. It seems very easy install (12 seconds according to the booklet). I haven't try them yet, but we will, when we go to Colorado this winter for skiing.
Very, very happy with the product and the service at etrailer.

by:

I haven't used them in snow yet, which is why I couldn't give them 5 stars. However, I did install them and that process was far superior to any regular or cable chains I have ever used.
You can literally install them in less than 10 minutes. True, they cost a lot more but considering that when installing chains you are often on the side of the road, which is not particularly safe and the weather is often fierce, I think they're worth it.

by:

On my 2010 Camry, I tried them out on my back tire to see if I could put them on. It has the something in the way making it harder to put chains on. It worked out very easy. My son told me to make sure I get the plastic part totally behind the tire. My legs are the strongest part on my body and my arms and hands are the weakest. I look forward to trying them out in the snow. I will review later when I can use them going up our hill.

by:

I bought these chains as a birthday present for my daughter. She is an avid recreational skier and races for her college team. I wanted to get her ones that she could install by herself quickly and safely when driving up to a ski resort or race meet alone. Just by following the illustrations on the inside of the storage bag she was able to install them on both tires in less than 5 minutes without any help or guidance from me. Taking them off took a few seconds. I have used many different chain tires over the years and these are the easiest to install by a long way. Hopefully they will perform well in the snow when winter hits.

by:

I used this on a 2019 Subaru Forester once last year on a steep backcountry snow-packed road. It was extremely quick to install and remove, and it gave me great control going up and down steep grades. I have zero complaints in my (admittedly limited) experience with this traction device.

by:

The thin cable connecting the chains behind the wheel broke on my third use. The chains ended up on the road.

by:

Snow chains... cu9. Watched the u tube. Took them out to garage... 1 minute later they were one. Now hoping I really don't need them next week when I drive up to Tahoe !
Fast shipping. Bryan is the best! Thanks!

by:

EXTREMELY easy to use, even right out of the package (which has photos of how to use in case you forget).

etrailer did a GREAT job of getting this to me ASAP for a trip where it turned out to be critical. HATS OFF GUYS!!!

by:

The chains are just as advertised. They do take a little jiggling to get the bottom of the loop behind the tire. Service was lightening fast and accurate.
