Unfortunately, my tech said that this cutting does void the warranty as well.

The size of the U bolts will determine what size the nuts holding them in place are. If they are 3/4" in diameter U bolts then you need a 1 1/8" socket to remove them. If the U bolts are 7/8" in diameter then you would use a 1 5/16" socket, or a 33mm would work as well.
They are very tight and can be difficult to remove so I recommend that you spray them down...
