Wires on a trailer wiring harness like the Tekonsha # 118689 will be color coded as a standard; the green wires will correspond to the right side and the yellow wires to the left side. I've linked some helpful articles on vehicle wiring, which includes some diagrams, that you might feel helpful. view full answer...
I contacted our representative at Roadmaster and he confirmed that the RoadMaster StowMaster Car-Mounted Tow Bar, part # RM-501, will fold up while still mounted to the front of your 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. Part # RM-501 will work great with the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit, part # 523145-5.
In addition to a tow bar and base plate kit, you will also need safety cables and wiring for lights or towing lights.
For safety cables, I recommend RoadMaster 68 Inch Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables,... view full answer...
I have spoken with one of our friends at Roadmaster who told me that using the Roadmaster Universal Diode Wiring Kit, part # RM-154, will work just fine with your Malibu LTZ.
If you will click on the provided link below which will take you to the product description page, you will see diagrams that illustrate the installation procedure.
We also have an installation video that shows the wiring kit being installed on a 2006 Jeep Liberty. Although the video shows the installation on a... view full answer...
The wiring kit # C59496 you are installing your 2011 Chevy Malibu LTZ can work with 2 or 3 wire systems. Your Malibu is a 2-wire system, as there is one bulb inside each tail light housing that illuminates for both the brake and turn signal functions. Because it's a 2 wire system, you'll want to ground BOTH the white and the Red wire when installing the # C59496. view full answer...
According to the installation instructions, the hole in the end panel will not be present on all models of the Malibu. Since it is not present on your vehicle, the hole will need to be drilled as outlined in the installation instructions. According to Curt, the steel you will need to drill through is VERY tough, and you will need high-quality carbide drill bit to get this done.
I have linked you to a copy of the installation instructions. view full answer...
We have the same information you have, which comes from the owner's manual. On page 353 of the owner's manual for a 2018 Chevy Malibu it states, as you said, "To prevent the battery from draining while the vehicle is being towed, remove fuses F10 and F41 from the instrument panel fuse block."
We do have to go by what the manufacturer says and therefore cannot recommend you flat tow this vehicle without pulling the fuses. You will want to use the Roadmaster FuseMaster Fuse Bypass Switch... view full answer...
Yes, for installation, you will need to temporarily lower the exhaust to install the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # C12272, on your 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. The best way to lower the hangers, is to apply some WD-40 to the rubber mounts to slide the hanger loose.
You will not need to trim the bumper fascia of your Malibu sedan, but you will need to do a bit of drilling. I attached the install instructions for you to learn more.
For a drawbar, you will need # C45521, and pin and clip... view full answer...
To begin installation of the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack part # SR1010 on your 2017 Chevrolet Malibu, open the passenger's- and driver's-side doors. Make sure that the screws that hold the clamps in the roof-rack feet are loose before positioning the feet on your roof.
For the front crossbar, you will need to measure from the top of the windshield and place the crossbar 9" back from that point. The feet should be positioned 30" apart from each other. The second crossbar will need to... view full answer...
Routing the 12V power wire for a powered trailer wiring harness like the Tow Ready T-One # 118602 may require some drilling. Often there will be existing holes and/or wiring grommets that can be used but in some instances drilling a new hole will make the installation process easier. You just want to be very careful to check the area where you intend to drill to ensure there are no critical components behind it, such as other wiring, a brake line or a fuel line. If you do end up drilling... view full answer...
There are two possible trailer wiring options for the 2010 Chevy Malibu depending on which model you have. All models except the LTZ, use the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118450. This is a T-One harness that plugs in line with the vehicle taillights. The connectors with the yellow wire go to the left taillight and the connectors with the green wire connect to the right taillight. The white ground wire gets attached to the bare metal surface behind the left taillight. I have included... view full answer...
According to my contact at Curt the battery in the trunk of your 2014 Chevy Malibu is for running the hybrid portion of the vehicle and should not have any circuits attached to it, whereas the battery under the hood of vehicle is charged by the alternator which would work well.
I attached an install video for this harness for you to check out as well. view full answer...
Yes, the ICX Transmitter that comes with the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Supplemental Braking System # RM-9400 is essentially the brains of the unit and you even plug the breakaway pin to it so the Even Brake will know to apply the brakes if your towed vehicle becomes unhitched.
This is justified further by the need for a new one if you use the Roadmaster Even Brake 2nd Vehicle Kit # RM-98450.
Attached is a review video and the installation instructions for you to check out. view full answer...
Since you have determined that your 2008 Chevy Malibu has a 2 wire (combined) taillight system you will need to ground both the red and the white wire of the # install harness part # C59496. Aside from that you will install the brown wire of the harness to your taillight circuit, the green to your right stop/turn, and the yellow to your left stop/turn.
The brown wire you found on your vehicle taillights shouldn't be carrying both your turn signal circuits and your running light circuits... view full answer...
You will need to drill a 1 inch hole behind the red lenses on your 2008 Buick Enclave. The RoadMaster Tail Light Wiring Kit with Bulbs, # RM-155 uses standard # 1157 (# A1157B) automotive bulbs which measure 1.83 inches tall and 0.97 inches wide. The sockets measure 0.95 inches where they attach to the taillight housing.
Roadmaster says to drill a 1 inch hole in the taillight housing behind a red lens to fit the socket. Once the bulb is inserted in the socket it requires 1/4 inch clearance... view full answer...

According to Blue Ox, the # BX1679 base plate kit would take an experienced technician approximately 3 hours to complete the installation. For a novice, it would be considerably longer, depending on their level of mechanical skill. I've linked you to the installation instructions as well as to an install video.
To complete you flat towing set-up, you'll also need a tow bar, a wiring solution, safety cables and a supplemental braking system.
For a towbar, I'd recommend the Blue Ox Alpha,... view full answer...
To install the Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # RM-523186-4 and wiring harness with Bulbs # RM-155 we would likely block out 4 hours to do it. On the generous side for a shop that doesn't regularly do this it could take 6 hours. There are a lot of parts that you want to make sure you label so they go back in the correct location and your 2018 Malibu does have a lot of disassembly and reassembly for both these kits.
I've attached our edited videos to give you an idea of the... view full answer...
To get the install hardware into the frame rails of your 2002 Chevy Malibu to install the Curt hitch part # C12027 will require using the fishwire method. This basically requires feeding the wire through the access points of the frame so that you can attach bolts to the fishwire and then pull the bolts into place.
I attached a couple helpful links that demonstrate the process for you to check out as well. view full answer...
Typically the power wire for a wiring harness like the T-Connector # C56387 that you are installing on your 2018 Chevrolet Malibu is routed outside and under the vehicle. If you can locate a grommet like part # A11GB at the rear of your vehicle you can then route the wire outside without drilling through your Malibu. Be sure to seal it back up with a gasket maker like part # LT37467.
Once outside we usually try to route the wire through the frame as that will keep it protected pretty well.... view full answer...
The frame is hollow so there is nothing for self-tapping hardware to grip. Also, frame steel is generally very strong and can even require a special drill bit (rotabroach) so self-tapping hardware would have an even harder time installing. I have linked the installation instructions.
If you plan on doing some towing then the correct ball mount is # C45522. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and for a 2 inch use # 19258. For trailer wiring use # 118450. Then you would also need a Pin and... view full answer...
