I've only dealt with the Thule Gateway Pro # TH88VR and I've not used the Thule Outway # TH45JV before. That being said, I am not a fan of trunk mounted bike racks but the Gateway Pro didn't give me any trouble so I would definitely go with that one! Check out the video I've made using the Gateway Pro!
If you plan on keeping it on your trunk aluminum would be ideal but the powder coated steel will resist the rust just as well. The arms on the Gateway fold down which means it's a retractable.... view full answer...
