This isn't super uncommon and as long as you aren't seeing any cracks in the metal or flaking of the powder coat you can safely, but slowly, bend the hitch back into place - it looks like you need it maybe 1/4" to 1/2" wider.

Per Curt, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C38JR is a compatible fit for all models of the 2022 Volkswagen Taos. You shouldn't have to remove the rear fascia or drill into anything but you'll likely need to trim the underbody panel if it interferes with the hitch. In my experience it's best to not cut anything and test fit the hitch in place first to make sure you even need to cut and how much you'll really need to cut.
