This is a 3 to 2 wire converter so it will combine the brake and turn signals to be compatible with the trailer wiring system. If you do not connect the red wire the stop signal will not be sent to the trailer lights.

- All three of the hitches you referenced are essentially the same thing and would use the same installation points. The part number 24680 and 77027 are now obsolete but have been superseded by the # 24748 that you referenced.
